Chernihiv border guard detachment of the State Border Service of Ukraine protects border with the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus with total length of 458 km, 235 km of it with the Republic of Belarus, 223 km – with the Russian Federation, 206 km is land area and 252 km is river area.
Border control and pass across the state border of persons, vehicles and goods, in accordance with a current legislation and international agreements, are carried out in 14 border crossing points (5 automobile – "Hrem'yach", "Mykolaivka", "Senkivka", "Novi Yarylovychi", "Slavutych", 5 railways (among them 3 passengers - "Horobychi", "Hornostaivka", "Nedanchychi" and 2 cargoes – "Snovsk" and "Chernihiv"), 4 locals (among them 3 automobiles are "Dereviny", "Ilmivka", "Dobryanka" and 1 river is Kamiyanka"). In general: 9 – are internationals, 1 is interstate "Mikolayivka", 4 are locals.
protection of the state border of Ukraine on land, rivers, lakes and other water with the aim to prevent illegal change of its line, compliance of border regime and regime of the state border;
realization in accordance with established procedure of border control and passing across the state border of Ukraine of persons, vehicles, cargo and other property, as well as identification and prevention of cases of their illegal moving;
conducting the operational and investigation activities in the interests to provide the security of the state border of Ukraine according to the Law of Ukraine;
coordination of activity of state bodies that carry out of different types of control on the state border or participate in providing border regime or regime of the state border and regime at the border crossing point;
participation in combating against the organized crime and counteraction to illegal migrants in border area;
coordination of the activity of military units and relevant law enforcement agencies, related to defense of state border of Ukraine.
