On the April 28, Ukraine celebrates World Day for Safety and Health at Work. The initiative of the International Labor Organization was supported in 2006 by Presidential Decree No. 685/2006 of 18.08.2006.

This year, the ILO planned to dedicate World Day for Safety and Health at Work to issues of violence and harassment in the sphere of work. However, under the influence of external circumstances, the motto had to be changed. The World Day for Safety and Health at Work 2020 motto now is: "Stop the pandemic: safety and health at work can save lives."

The reason for the change in priorities is obvious: growing concern about the rapid spread of coronavirus infection in some regions of the world and the ability to maintain a tendency to reduce them in others. Governments, employers, workers and their organizations face tremendous challenges in trying to combat the COVID-19 pandemic and ensure safe and healthy working conditions. In addition to the current crisis, there is concern about resuming operations in a way that will support the progress made in preventing transmission of the infection. This is why World Day for Safety and Health at Work will focus on combating infectious disease outbreaks in the world of work, with particular attention to the COVID-19 pandemic.

For the sake of proper celebration, the Organizing Committee for the Preparation and Holding of World Day for Safety and Health at Work in Ukraine in 2020 prepared an appeal to state authorities, local self-government, employers, trade unions, mass media, managers and employees of enterprises, institutions and organizations.

The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine also supports the initiative of the International Labor Organization to hold a World Day for Safety and Health at Work under a new motto. Most measures will address the spread and providing response to the pandemic.
