Two Romanian citizens were found to have contraband cigarettes at the Border crossing point
BACKBorder guards prevented two attempts of tobacco products illegal transportation on the Ukrainian-Romanian border sector. One of the drivers lost a valuable trailer estimated at 1 million hryvnias.
During the inspection of the vehicle at "Porubne" international automobile BCP, the border guards, together with the customs officials discovered a specially equipped hiding place at the "DAF" truck. Using the design features of the vehicle, the 25-year-old Romanian citizen driver managed to hide 3,000 packs of foreign-made cigarettes without Ukrainian excise stamps in the bottom of the trailer.
According to a preliminary estimate, the cost of tobacco products amounted to almost 210 thousand hryvnias. Also, a 2018 dump semi-trailer with a value of 1 million hryvnias was confiscated for the illegal transportation of tobacco. Later, under similar circumstances, border guards stopped a 63-year-old Romanian citizen who was trying to transport 2,000 packs of tobacco products in Mercedes truck illegally. The value of confiscated cigarettes amounted to 140 thousand hryvnias.
