During his stay in Odessa, the Head of the State Border Guard Service together with the US Chargé d'Affaires a.i. in Ukraine visited the Southern Regional Directorate.

The foreign delegation was presented the activities and features of the Southern Regional Directorate, its reorganization and prospects for reformation.

In particular, the Head of the the Southern Regional Directorate Serhii Mul noted that the border guard units protect the state border of Ukraine, the administrative border, the Ukrainian part of the Azov Sea within the boundaries of Vinnytsa, Odesa, Mykolaiv, Kherson, Zaporizhzhia oblasts with a length of 2821.945 km.

Besides protection and defence of the administrative border of the Kherson oblast, the temporary occupied territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, the waters of the Azov Sea, entry-exit control points, the features inherent in the Regional Directorate also include border protection in the area of Zmiinyi island, the central section of the Ukrainian-Moldavian border, the Dniester and Danube rivers.

Special attention was also focused on the reconstruction of the entry-exit control points “Kalanchak” and “Chonhar”, starting to operate the CCTV system and the registration of license plates. In addition, the coverage of the surface conditions on the Azov Sea with the help of modernization of 5 observation posts at Berdiansk border guard detachment was also highlighted.

The US Chargé d'Affaires ai in Ukraine Christina Quinn noted that according to her colleagues and experts reports the level of US cooperation within this area is really high, for which Ms Quinn expressed her gratitude.

She noted that the security of Ukraine is the security of the United States of America, because Ukraine is at the forefront of this fight.

Serhii Deineko also thanked the representatives of the US Embassy in Ukraine for their continuous support and high appreciation of the activity of the State Border Guard Service. He’s stressed that nowadays the US-Ukraine relations are not just cooperation, but genuine friendly relations.
