Border guards received charitable assistance estimate at more than 5 million hryvnias: a mobile X-ray machine, 200 bio-protective suits, 5,000 masks, 500 respirators, and 100 goggles.

Medical and protective equipment were handed over to the Main Military Medical Clinical Center of the State Border Guard Service by the National Joint-Stock Company “Naftogaz of Ukraine”. In the framework of combating the spread of coronavirus infection, Naftogaz ordered 200 tons of charitable aid from China for Ukrainian hospitals. Part of this assistance was handed over to the border guard agency, which was one of the first to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in Ukraine. Precautions have allowed border guards to avoid the spread of the pandemic virus among staff for a long period of time. So far 27 servicemen and employees of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine have been laboratory confirmed for COVID-19, 5 of whom have already recovered. The rest are provided with the necessary medical care, their disease is mild.

The head of the State Border Guard Service thanked Naftogaz for the assistance and stressed that it would be received primarily by medical workers who are in constant contact with potentially infected people. Serhii Deineko noted that the received equipment will allow to diagnose border guards faster and more effectively.

“Today we received a very unique equipment - a mobile X-ray machine, which has not been in the health care facilities of the department before,” said the Head of the State Border Guard Service.

“Naftogaz is actively providng assistance to the state to fight the spread of coronavirus infection: the purchase of necessary equipment has been agreed with the Ministry of Health,” said Serhiy Pereloma, First Deputy Chairman of the Board of Naftogaz Ukraine.

“We hope that this will help our doctors to stay healthy to treat other citizens of Ukraine, and eventually overcome this threat,” he added.

During his stay in the hospital, the Head of the State Border Guard Service also thanked the medical staff for their work, and awarded several nurses with watches with border guard symbols.

He stressed that hospital staff have to constantly contact with patients and those who had been in contact with them, and other people who could potentially have caught the coronavirus.
