On June 19 the border guards of Vilhuvatka division of Kharkiv Border Guard Detachment prevented an attempt to smuggle goods across the border from Russia into Ukraine.

At dawn near the state border the border patrol have noticed two cars not far from Artilne in Kharkiv oblast. When border guards approached the vehicles for inspection, unknown people in cars had immediately fled.

Soon after, during search operations, border guards found fugitive cars that had been left nearby. The two cars left by the violators – Renault Duster and Volkswagen T4 were without license plates, and the Renault was in a ditch.

During the inspection, law enforcement officers found that the vehicles were not empty, they contained boxes of food that had been illegally moved from Russia to Ukraine. In total, the cars contained 75 boxes of peeled pine nuts weighing 900 kg and 21 boxes of dried mangoes weighing 441 kg.

In addition, the offenders tried to escape from the border guards so fast that they had left documents for vehicles in the cars. This will help law enforcement officers to identify those involved in illegal activities quickly.

The "Gifts of Nature" from the Russian Federation were estimated for more than 896 thousand hryvnias and handed over to the representatives of the tax service. The vehicles were taken to the border unit.

Measures to search for persons involved in illegal activities are going on.
