Law enforcement officers put an end to the activities of a criminal group that illegally transported Diphenhydramine across the Transnistrian segment of the border with Moldova and sold the drug in Ukraine.

Operational officers of the Southern Regional Directorate of the State Border Guard Service under the procedural guidance of Odessa Oblast Prosecutor's Office exposed a particularly large scale smuggling of the highly active substance Diphenhydramine.

The criminal group, which was transporting a potent drug from the Transnistrian region to Ukraine, included two citizens of the Republic of Moldova and two citizens of Ukraine.

On May 22, border guards detained four people who organized and smuggled about 15 kg of Diphenhydramine to Ukraine. According to this fact, the SD DSSU in Odessa region initiated criminal proceedings under Art. 201 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine “Smuggling”.

In order to expose all involved in the supply of detected potent substances, a special operation was carried out, as a result of which in Liubashivka, Odessa region, operatives of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, investigators of the SD DSSU in Odessa region, with the forceful support of the special unit “DOZOR” detained an ordering customer. This citizen of Ukraine was selling strong substances and drugs on the territory of Ukraine. Thus, law enforcement officers liquidated all links of a criminal chain: from smugglers-suppliers to the customer-seller.

It should be mentioned that Art. 201 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine provides imprisonment for up to 12 years with confiscation of property.

As a part of the criminal proceedings, information on the possible involvement of the staff of the State Border Guard Service in this smuggling is also being checked.
