Festive events on the occasion of presenting the “Orlan” project cutter and 4 “UMS 1000” project cutters to Sevastopol Marine Guard detachment took place

 

Festive events on the occasion of presenting the “Orlan” project cutter and 4 “UMS 1000” project cutters to Sevastopol Marine Guard detachment took place in Balaklava (Sevastopol). These cutters will be used for carrying out the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine’s tasks in territorial waters.

The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine has begun a large-scale modernization of the Marine Guard fleet.

A number of high-level officials, including Lieutenant-general Oleksandr Melnykov, Director of International and Law Directorate of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, Volodymyr Yatsuba, Head of Sevastopol Municipal Administration, representatives of different law-enforcement agencies and services, veterans, clergy of Sevastopol and Autonomous Republic of Crimea, took part in the ceremony.

After ceremonial presentation and flag-raising ceremony on the new cutters and blessing of vessels, the cutters put out to Balaklava bay. The first “Orlan” type cutter, which was given the honorary name “Balaklava”, has endurance distance of 500 miles and speeds up to 38 knots. “Orlan” has its own on-board watercraft – powerboat. Small “UMS-1000” cutter has two water-jet motors, allowing the speed of up to 42 knots per hour.
