The Main center of criminal expertise of the SBGS of Ukraine
The main center of criminal expertise of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine is the state specialized agency, according to the second part of the article 7 of the Law of Ukraine «On judicial expertise» is an expert service of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine the main function of which is to carry out the legal expertise and expert researches of passport documents used for the crossing of the state border of Ukraine according to the legislation in order to prevent, reveal, disclose and investigate the crimes and other offences by the application of criminal- expertise means.

The basic tasks of the center are:
realization of legal expertise and expert researches of passport documents for the authorities of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, and other law enforcement authorities for the purpose of prevention, revealing, disclosing and investigation of crimes and other offences in the sphere of protection , and accomplishment of other works within its jurisdiction;
organisation-legal and methodical management of expert subsections activity of the Main center;
organisation scientifically-methodical and information support of activity of the authorities of the State border guard service of Ukraine in the sphere of border protection ;
carrying out of basic researches in the sphere of judicial-expert provision;
operational-technical and metrological provision technical-criminalistical means;
research operation of means which are used during carrying out of judicial expertise, and provision their use in practical activities - carrying out of basic researches in the sphere of legal-expertise provision;
operational-technical and metrological provision technical-criminalistics means.

The Order of Administration of the State border guard service of Ukraine from 7/08/2009 № 594, registered in the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine of 2/09/2009 for № 824/16840 «About the Instruction statement about an order of appointment and carrying out of judicial expertise and expert researches of passport documents by expert service of the State border guard service of Ukraine»;
The Order of Administration of the State border guard service of Ukraine from 23/11/2010 № 891, registered in the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine of 10/12/2010 for № 1246/18541 «About the Position statement about the expertise-qualifying commission and certification of court experts of the State border guard service of Ukraine».
Legal status of court expert
According to the Act of Ukraine «About judicial expertise» court experts of the state specialized agencies can be specialists who have corresponding higher education, educationally-qualifying level not below the specialist, had training corresponding preparation and have received qualification of the court expert from a certain specialty.
The court expert on bases and in an order provided by the legislation, can be drawn to disciplinary, material, administrative or criminal responsibility.
Judicial expertise and expert researches are conducted by the court experts certified according to the current legislation who have received corresponding certificates of court experts and as the order of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine from 15/04/1997 № 149/7 (with amendments), registered in Ministry of Justice on May, 6th, 1997 for № 166/1970 «About the statement of the Order of conducting the state Register of the certified court experts» included in the state Register of the certified court experts.
