August 27, on the event of the Day of Remembrance of Defenders of Ukraine, the State Border Guard Service honoured the heroes who laid down their lives in the struggle for independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Border guards were among the first to defend Ukraine in 2014 and side by side with the armed forces continue to defend our land from the Russian aggressor.

To pay tribute to the fallen border guards, the leadership and servicemen of the SBGS gathered at the Main Personnel Training Centre named after Major General Ihor Momot together with the relatives of the fallen Heroes.

At the event, it was noted that thanks to our blood brothers, husbands and parents, the country survived. However, at a heavy price. Thousands of lives, tens of thousands of wounds and ruined lives, destroyed cities and villages - the price of our freedom, and the struggle continues.

Unfortunately, fate did not escape the border guard family, as 70 border guards were killed, 5 went missing, 435 border guards were wounded, more than 22,000 border guards passed through the crucible of this undeclared war. Three border guards received the highest title - Hero of Ukraine (posthumously).

It was also stated during the event that the enemy attacked insidiously and vilely, violating all obligations, international rules and basic laws of honour and dignity.

All 70 of our blood brothers and sisters are Heroes. They all deserve the highest awards and the highest respect. The memory of them will forever be in our hearts, and their actions will be an example of courage, heroism and immeasurable love for our homeland.

During the meeting with the families of the deceased, those present observed a minute of silence in memory of the defenders of Ukraine and remembered each deceased by name. Flowers were also laid at the monument to the hero of Ukraine, Major General Ihor Momot, and the monument “On the Border Guard”.

“The whole country is proud of the border guards. Such sons, true patriots of their Motherland could be brought up only by the best parents. A low bow and great honour to every mother and father, wives and children of our Heroes. We share the pain and sorrow in our hearts with each family of the fallen border guards. We will always be with you. You are our border guard family,” Serhii Serdiuk, First Deputy Head of the State Border Guard Service, emphasized.

After presenting memorable souvenirs, decorations and gifts to the families of the deceased border guards, the First Deputy spoke and inquired about the problems of relatives of the deceased, in particular, kept himself informed about their social problems and discussed how to solve them.

“Your problems are also our problems, and together we will try to solve them, because we are one bordergurd family, we will not leave anyone in trouble,” said Serhii Ivanovych.
