The meeting of the First Deputy Head of the State Border Guard Service Volodymyr Nikiforenko with the Head of the Border Management and Security Program of the International Centre for Migration Policy Development Boruton Erzhen took place yesterday within the framework of the international technical assistance project “EU Support in Strengthening IBM in Ukraine”.

At the beginning of the meeting, Volodymyr Nikiforenko thanked for the cooperation and in particular the joint project and noted that Integrated Border Management is one of the main aspects of the implementation of state policy in the field of state border protection. He also stressed the importance of combining national capabilities and international assistance for further improvement and implementation of the principles of protection of state borders in accordance with European best practices.

During the meeting, important issues of the state of implementation of the project, which began in 2019, were discussed. It was noted that the initial component of analysis and optimization of business processes has already been completed and work is underway to prepare the practical implementation of the project. It was also noted that intensive work was carried out to support the activities of the Interdepartmental Working Group in the field of integrated border management, the strengthening of interdepartmental cooperation and risk analysis, as well as human resources management etc.

Volodymyr Nikiforenko expressed gratitude for the support provided in the development of the “green” border protection system in order to combat the illegal movement of tobacco products, in particular, the introduction of a “pilot” project in the Chernivtsi border guard detachment. This project will provide an opportunity to test new approaches to border protection and decide on the further extension of such a solution to other parts of the state border.
