Recently, a meeting of directors of units of the Ukrainian and Polish border agencies responsible for working with foreign offenders, their detention, identification and readmission took place.

During the meeting, the delegates presented the current migration situation in both countries, with a special focus on the Ukrainian-Polish section of the state border. They also discussed return issues, migration risks and threats, and presented the best practices for combating illegal migration and related to it smuggling of excisable goods.

The visit also included a presentation and visit to the Security Center for Detained Foreigners in Leshnovola, as well as the Dorokhusk-Yahodyn Contact Point as an advanced and effective means of bilateral cooperation in the border area, which needs to be renewed in the light of quarantine requirements.

The parties discussed the results of didactic activities, during which three groups of senior cadets of the Law Enforcement Faculty of Bohdan Khmelnytskiy National Academy of State Border Guard Service received training in the Specialized Training Center of the Border Guard of the Republic of Poland, workshops and internships in Polish places of detention of 20 Ukrainian border guards, who provide protection and escort of detainees. The results of the internship of two groups of senior officials in the Office for Foreigners of the General Commandant’s office of the Border Guard of the Republic of Poland were also summed up.

The delegates agreed to continue similar activities in the second half of this year, and decided to start training in the basic principles of preventing illegal migration of young border guards in Poland and forensic experts of the Main Forensic Center of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine. A separate area of ​​bilateral cooperation, which needs to be intensified and developed, is IT support of migration aspects at the state border.
