The first joint patrol with the participation of border guards of the “Tarutyno” section of the Belhorod-Dnistrovskyi detachment went on duty yesterday on the Moldovan side.

In the future, border guards from the Belhorod-Dnistrovskyi and Mohiliv-Podilskyi detachments will go on joint patrols with the Moldovan Border Police. A decision to this effect was made the other day during a border-representative meeting. The parties agreed that only border guards who had been fully vaccinated against corona virus infection would be involved in joint patrols. They will serve on the territory of Ukraine or Moldova, and with weapons and special equipment will be only the border guards of the country whose territory is being patrolled.

The practice of joint patrols of the Ukrainian-Moldovan border was introduced back in 2012 under an intergovernmental agreement and protocol of border authorities of both countries. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this practice was suspended last March.

It is worth noting that this interaction makes it possible to more effectively counteract organized criminal activity, to respond quickly to attempts to violate the state border and the movement of smuggled goods.

Also thanks to such events the exchange of experience in the field of state border protection is taking place. This summer, Ukrainian border guards resumed joint patrols with their Romanian, Slovakian, and Hungarian colleagues.
