On February 19 in Transcarpathia border guards revealed the fact of smuggling cigarettes to EU countries.

During passport control at the border crossing point «Tysa» of Chop Border Guard Detachment a driver, citizen of Ukraine, showed a passport document and the certificate of honorary consul of another country in Uzhhorod. During the examination of the certificate, the border guards found that it was counterfeit. At the request of the border guard to provide a car for inspection, the driver got locked in the car and for almost six hours resisted legal requirements of the border guards. Eventually, law enforcement officers had to use physical force and check the vehicle. 6550 packs of tax-free cigarettes were found there.

Chop Border Guard Detachment is currently getting the documents ready for the legal proceeding on malicious disobedience to the legal requirements of the border guards (Articles 185-10 of the Code of Administrative Offenses). The case hearing is planned for the next week.

Cigarettes and the offender’s car were confiscated by the State Fiscal Service officers in Transcarpathian region. Estimate for the passenger car 2017 Toyota Land Cruiser 200 and tax-free tobacco and is currently being calculated.

Two criminal proceedings were opened on this fact. Pre-trial investigation into the use of a forged document (Part 4 of Article 358 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine) is carried out by investigators of the National Police, and investigators of the State Fiscal Service for the illicit transportation for the purpose of sale of excisable goods (Part 1 of Article 204 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). Procedural guidance in both proceedings is provided by the prosecutors of Uzhgorod Prosecutor’s Office.
