By the Independence Day of Ukraine, border guards have selected the TOP-3 most high-profile “cases” of cocaine detection, which took place at the state border for three decades.

Illegal goods worth hundreds of millions of dollars on the black market were found in exotic hiding places – in smelting furnaces, in iron pipes made of scrap metal and even under the guise of fruit.

The third place in the top list is occupied by the opening of the supply channel from the country of South America in March 2019 in the seaport “South”. In a container that arrived from Ecuador with a cargo of “bananas”, law enforcement officers found 220 briquettes with a particularly dangerous drug weighing 257 kg. The detected cocaine was estimated at more than 1 billion hryvnias.

“Silver” in the top three “leaders” seize 580 kilograms of cocaine, which border guards found in July 2010 in the port of Odessa. They tried to hide the Latin American drug in iron pipes that were transported in a container on a ship from Istanbul under the German flag.

However, these half tons of drugs did not hold the record for the largest consignment of cocaine in Ukrainian history for long.

After all, three weeks later, border guards uncovered the largest consignment of cocaine - 1,192.95 kg - also in July 2010, also in the port of Odessa. To date, this exposure is in first place.

The vessel with two containers was on the route “Venezuela – Panama – Italy – Turkey – Odessa” with cargo “induction furnaces”. Law enforcement officers completely dismantled the kilns and obtained more than 2 tons of cocaine.
