On September 23rd, the international "Invictus Games" adaptive sports competition kicks off in the Canadian city of Toronto. Serviceman and veterans of combat actions,  who have acquired a physical or mental health injury or illness while in service, take part in this competitions. For the first time Ukrainian team will participate in the Paralympic Games, founded in 2014. 

The opening ceremony of the Games was held at the Air Canada Center. In particular, among the honorable guests were the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Arsen Avakov, the Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudo and the founder of the competition Britain's Prince Harry.

The opening of "Invictus Games" began with the Parade of Nations: all the participating teams have solemnly passed through the spectators.

This was an exciting moment for everyone, especially for the Ukrainian national team, which will debut in the " Invictus Games ". This year Ukraine was first granted the right to participate in the Paralympic Sports Forum as a participant of many military exercises, peacekeeping operations, and also as a country whose troops have got a combat experience in carrying out tasks in a military operations in the Donbass.

The Ukrainian team consists of 28 athletes, 17 of them are representatives of the law-enforcement agencies: guardsmen, policemen, borderguards. Besides, the border guard Viktor Shynkaruk, who, despite the mine explosive injury of leg, got in 2014 in Luhansk region, continues to serve in the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.

The Head of the Ukrainian team is Alexander Pisarenko.
