THE HEAD OF THE STATE BORDER GUARD SERVICE VISITED HUNGARY

The parties agreed to continue further cooperation regarding protection of the common Ukrainian-Hungarian border.

A delegation of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, headed by the Head of the Border Guard Service, Major General Serhii Deineko, visited Hungary last week.

Serhii Deineko conducted in Hungary a meeting with the Deputy Chief of the National Police – Chief Director of the Hungarian Law Enforcement Directorate, Major General of Police, Dr. Zholt Halmoshi.

During the meeting, the parties analyzed the state of protection of the Ukrainian-Hungarian border and exchanged information on combating illegal activity.

As the Head of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine noted - relations with the General Directorate of Law Enforcement of Hungary were and remain strategically important.

In turn, Zholt Halmoshi stressed that if most of their external borders were as secure as the border with Ukraine, they might not worry about security. He thanked the Ukrainian side for the reliable cooperation.

The heads of delegations stated that the situation at the common border remained under control. The main threats remain the organized illegal migration and smuggling of goods both at border crossing points and outside them. In particular, it was noted that the number of detained illegal migrants has decreased.

Ukrainian and Hungarian law enforcement officers also exchanged experience in border protection, combating the smuggling of illegal migrants, smuggling, drugs and other substances prohibited by law.

In addition, the delegation of the State Border Guard Service together with the managers of Hungarian law enforcement agencies visited the section of the Hungarian-Serbian border. Ukrainian border guards got acquainted with the state border protection system, a complex of engineering and technical facilities and new technical means used by the Hungarian National Police.

Also, during the visit, the Ukrainian delegation visited the command centre in Morokhol, border crossing points on the Hungarian-Serbian border and the Hungarian Police Headquarters in Budapest.

The parties agreed to continue further cooperation regarding protection of the common Ukrainian-Hungarian border.
