On the basis of the materials of the operative-search unit of the Lviv Border Guard Detachment, officers of the Territorial Office of the State Bureau of Investigation in Lviv under the procedural guidance of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, on October 27, 2020 initiated criminal proceedings concerning the involvement of Galician customs officers into illegal transportation of goods to the territory of Ukraine through checkpoints within Lviv region.

As a result, on November 14, 2020, at the Krakivets BCP, law enforcement officers stopped an attempt to illegally import a large consignment of undeclared goods.

Thus, the identified participants of the criminal proceedings, who are close to the person on the NSDC sanctioned list, tried to illegally move clothes and cosmetics of well-known brands from EU countries for more than 16 million hryvnias under the guise of “ceramic tiles”. It was established that the offenders used accompanying documents containing false information about the name of the goods and made a deal with the inspector of the customs post “Yavoriv”, who deliberately entered false information about the goods into the customs clearance system, namely he registered a million consignment under the guise of cheap ceramic tiles.

In the future, in order to avoid responsibility and conceal signs of criminal activity, the organizers of this illegal activity together with customs officers resorted to tricks and tried to return the truck with ‘the contraband’ to Poland. However, law enforcement officers thwarted these plans. They detained the truck with the goods, documented this fact and took it into account in the pre-trial investigation.

In general, during the investigation, law enforcement officers found sufficient evidence of involvement of the participants in the commission of a criminal offense.

Currently, the first involved offender – the above-mentioned inspector of the Yavoriv customs post – on the basis of available materials has been informed about the suspicion of committing crimes under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The investigation in the criminal proceedings is underway, the necessary investigative actions are being carried out in order to bring to justice all the participants in the criminal proceedings.
