Today is a day when one year ago the hero border guard Senior Lieutenant Viacheslav Semenov died. He firmly defended the block post "Balu" at the crossroads near the inhabited point of Fashchivkaat the Debaltsevo base area.

Today more than 50 of his sworn brothers from Mohyliv-PodilskyiBorder Guard Detachment and those who were with the hero till his last breath, arrived to a cemetery, where the border guard was buried. The military personnel met the family of their companion in arms to remember the courageous defender of the native land and to give honor of his deed. Some of the border guards owe their lives to Viacheslav.

Remembering last year's events men noted that the Senior Lieutenant Viacheslav Semenov himself addressed the command with the proposition to replace ahead of schedule the companions who were on "Balu" and were engaged in active fights for several days.

When he was already at the post and was beating off numerous attacks of terrorists, the officer, for the sake of life of subordinates, chose for himself the most dangerous tasks and tried to hold the positions under any circumstances. Under his command the border guard detail destroyed the tank, the infantry fighting vehicle and the enemy's truck.

On February 17, 2015 ViacheslavAnatoliovych Semenov was severely wounded because of the direct shot of the tank at the position. Having estimated situation and realized the impossibility of the further holding defense line, he ordered subordinates to withdraw to spare positions. Meanwhile he remained on the position to cover withdrawal. On the same day the officer died of the wounds, however his subordinates due to the heroic act of their commander could come back alive.

"He was a true officer and commander, - remembers one of the block post defenders Warrant-OfficerOleg Vinnytskyi, - supported us both with fire, and his word, and his own example. Thanks to the commander we survived".

The border guards will always remember courage and dedicated actions shown during performing of military missions, and especially those who owe their life to the heroic defender of Ukraine. Eternal glory to the Hero!
