Procedures at border crossing points on the state border prove their effectiveness almost daily, in particular with regard to vehicles.

Almost every week, border guards find cars stolen in the European Union and in our country, as well as hundreds of vehicles with problematic documents, or those that show signs of tampering with the factory numbers of components and units.

A great help to law enforcement in the process of identifying cars is the Interpol database.

Yesterday afternoon, border guards of the Sumy detachment at the Bachivsk BCP stopped a 2018 Toyota LC 200 SUV which got flagged in the Interpol database. A Russian-registered car attempted to enter Ukraine. When the border guards informed the driver that the vehicle data had matched with the database of stolen vehicles, the driver began to explain that he was the actual owner of the car, and that after a long search, the SUV had been found in Germany and returned to him.

In order to verify this information, the border guards informed the Ukrbureau of Interpol and handed over the vehicle to the National Police. If it turns out that the database by some strange coincidence contains outdated information - the car, of course, will be returned to the rightful owner and he will be able to continue his journey. Otherwise - a luxury car will complement the sad statistics.

By the way, a total of 620 cars were detained on the border last year. 62 of them were stolen vehicles. 324 cars had forged, faulty documents, as well as unit numbers that did not match the data in the registration documents. Another 233 cars were detained due to involvement in illegal activities, including the movement of contraband goods.
