Situation at the border has acquired new features, namely terrorists now conduct “guerrilla war” by means of sudden gunfire and bombardment of the State Border Guard Service units and Counterterrorist Operation forces.

From 23.40 to 23.52, July 7, mortar bombardment, targeted on border guards’ station place near “Yuhanivka” border crossing point (Luhansk region), was conducted. The bombardment was performed from about 2-kilometer distance and the attack was repelled. Nine servicemen have got minor fragment injuries.

Other attacks took place towards border guards units near Diakove village (from 3.00 to 3.30) and “Dovzhanskyi” border crossing point (from 4.00 to 4.40), both in Luhansk region. None of border guards suffered.

Furthermore, unmanned aerial vehicle has been detected by a border guard patrol on the ground, 50 metres away from the border with Russia in Donetsk oblast.

 On 22.00, July 7, Russian Federation citizen, involved in terrorist activity, was detained at “Uspenka” border crossing point (Donetsk region). The following items were detected in course of inspection: “identity document” of the “Donetsk People’s Republic” militiaman (signed by Ihor Strelkov, leader of terrorists), notebook with contact phone numbers and instruction on communication procedure, city maps (Sloviansk, Kramatorsk, Donetsk, Amvrosiivka cities), four sets of military camouflage uniform and three pairs of military boots, bayonet, box respirator, rifle ammunition carrier, credit cards, two portable radio-stations with reserve antennas and charging devices, GPS-navigator, three mobile phones, camera, etc.    

The Russian border guard service continues fortifying border crossing points on the border with Ukraine in order to counteract terrorists. In particular, such works are conducted at “Troiebortne” border crossing point. All the vehicle entering Russian Federation are subjected to full inspection, without exceptions.

Deployment of Russian armed forces is being observed in the Russian border regions adjacent to Ukrainian Luhansk, Kharkiv and Sumy regions.
