On October 27, Serhii Deineko met with representatives of the Seym of the Republic of Lithuania and the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania in Ukraine at the SBGS Administration.

During the meeting were discussed topical issues related to border protection in both countries.

The Lithuanian delegation was represented by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Lithuania to Ukraine Valdemaras Sarapinas, the Chairman of the National Security and Defense Committee of the Seym of the Republic of Lithuania Lourinas Kasčiunas, the Deputies of the Head of the Seym and other officials.

"Ukraine and Lithuania are two fraternal and friendly states. Your country always supports our territorial integrity and independence, helps to treat and rehabilitate our defenders," said the Head of the SBGS.

He informed the Lithuanian representatives about the main tasks performed by the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, as well as the situation at the state border. Also, Serhii Deineko noted that there is a clear vision of the development of the border agency and Ukraine shares the principles of regional collective security and its main features - trust, mutual respect and constructive cooperation.

The Chairman of the Committee on National Security and Defense of the Seym of the Republic of Lithuania, who is also the Chairman of the Friendship Group with Ukraine, Laurinas Kasciunas noted that the group had previously visited eastern Ukraine to learn about the security situation in the area. They are currently having a series of meetings in Kyiv, including with Ukrainian border guards, to exchange information on best border protection practices.

He expressed confidence that Ukraine is well aware of the most acute problem on the state border of Lithuania, related to the flow of illegal migrants from Belarus.

During the conversation, the parties paid great attention to the importance of engineering and technical arrangement of the border and noted what is being done by countries in this direction.

Lithuanian officials thanked Ukraine for its assistance in supplying barbed wire to strengthen the border. It should be mentioned that the relevant Decree of the President of Ukraine on providing humanitarian aid to Lithuania in connection with the influx of migrants was signed in August this year.

At the same time, Serhii Deineko added that the border guards of Ukraine are also ready, in case of a request from Lithuanian colleagues, to join the assistance, the relevant initiative has already been voiced. The Head of the department noted that he understands well what Lithuania is facing so far, and he noted that during a meeting with a Polish colleague a few days ago, the same situation was discussed on the Polish-Belarus border.

During the meeting it was emphasized that close cooperation, support and exchange of experience are important for strengthening border protection, which can then be effectively applied in practice.
