During the meeting, the Chairman of the State Border Guard Service outlined the main aspects and tasks carried out by border guards to protect the border, and the ways of the development of the State Border Guard Service were mentioned as well.

However, he also noted that Ukraine now has big challenges, because there are long borders with the aggressor country the Russian Federation and Belarus, where now there is a migration crisis, which may directly affect Ukraine.

The heads of structures elaborated on the topic of illegal migration from Belarus to the EU countries.

In particular, Serhii Deineko noted that in order to counteract this phenomenon, European partners are working on engineering the border line. He added that in addition to strengthening the border with additional reserves, Ukraine also seeks to build a modern, reliable, European border and work is being done in this direction.

In addition, in order to effectively counter illegal activities, there was mentioned the need to exchange information, in particular to expose and jointly counteract channels of illegal migration. It is also an exchange of experience to implement best practices for border protection.

As noted by Serhii Deineko, now both Poland and Lithuania are actually undergoing the practical part of integrated border management, they are testing it for stress resistance.

Another issue highlighted was the development of infrastructure and the functioning of border crossing points for the comfortable crossing of the border by citizens.

The ICMPD director general thanked for the meeting and detailed discussion of the issues.
