The operation "Border" for preventing the entry into Ukraine of groups and individuals who may participate in the activities of the extremist nature on Ukrainian territory, transportation of arms, ammunition and explosives is in progress on the Ukrainian-Russian border sector.

The representatives of Border Guard Service, Ministry of Internal Affairs and Security Service are involved into special activities. Particularly, border control technical means and border guard details are additionally fielded by the Border Guard Service reserves, mobile units and reinforcement groups.

Substantial border control is holding at BCPs.

The measures taken are effective, border guards detect radical Russian citizens. Most of them follow through railway BCPs “Horobychi”, “Konotop”, “Khutir-Mykhailivskyi”, “Kharkiv-Pasaghyrskyi” and automobile BCP “Goptivka”.

In general, 540 citizens were refused for entry into Ukraine during the last day in the process of enhanced border control measures.

Some examples

Travellers detected at BCP “Goptivka” insisted they were following for their friend’s wedding, though, instead of gifts they carried camouflage uniform, masks, sleeping bags, medical supplies kit, cold steel, tear-gas spray containers, Russian press with materials on the political situation in Ukraine, maps, compasses etc. Later, these men told they were the workers of a certain private security agency in Moscow.

Also, two Russian "tourists" who made ​​their way from Belarus to Ukraine via Chernihiv region were detected. According to their statement they intended to get to the Crimea. They also had several kits of camouflage clothing and a rubber truncheon.
