5 Romanian Navy ships and a border police boat decorated with the flags anchored in Romanian waters and saluted the ships and boats of the Ukrainian Naval Forces and the State Border Guard Service keeping the distance in front of the harbors where Ukrainian participants were landed.

Only the commanders of the two fleets, the training leaders from the Romanian and Ukrainian parts, and the officers of the training headquarters took part in the ceremonial events.

In his welcoming speech, the Chief of the Romanian Naval Forces
Rear Admiral (UH) Mihai Panait
, noted that joint training with a common system of NATO standards is a guarantee of skillful and effective actions in the future. “… It doesn't matter what threat we counter - a military unit, a terrorist group, a sabotage group, border violators or a global viral pandemic. In fact, the most important thing is the acquired skills, abilities and coherence of actions, as well as the effectiveness of the measures taken to neutralize the enemy force,” added Mihai Panait.

Maneuvers of ships and boats, air defense of the ship in specific conditions of river navigation, ensuring the safety of civil navigation, work of the trawl group and other contactless tasks of the training will be performed normally.

At the same time, the training headquarters and other units that provide for contact have been transferred to the mode of national training.

It should be noted that the main task of the Danube maneuvers is to test the interaction of the Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and Romania with the involvement of the ships and boats of the border guard agencies of both states.

The Izmail Maritime Detachment independently represents the Maritime Guard of the State Border Guard Service in the Riverine 2020 training for the first time. For the newly formed detachment, this is another experience of participating in international training and developing a close partnership with Romanian colleagues, whose boat is also involved in.

The first day of training was full of maneuvers of 12 units’ large formation, traditionally, without stopping civilian navigation. Elements of survey operations in the conditions of landing within one national and even agency group were also worked out. An international operation was also carried out to trawl the Danube area, where underwater explosive “surprises” of previous wars and battles of previous years are likely to be detected. The conditionally spent mine was destroyed by a ship-blasting team of the Ukrainian Naval Forces.

There are 3 more busy days of river training ahead.
