On February 4, a practical seminar on gender assessment in law enforcement agencies was held at the European Union Advisory Mission (EUAM) in Ukraine.

The event was organized by the EUAM experts in Ukraine and the trainers of the Folke Bernadotte Academy for staff responsible for promoting gender equality in the security and defence sector of Ukraine.

The State Border Service officers responsible for gender issues joined the seminar. Representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine also took part in the event.

The seminar was attended by EUAM Ukraine Vice-President Fredrik Wesslau, who supported the position of the Ukrainian government and wished the participants success in an important area of activity.

Representatives of the Folke Bernadotte Academy in particular explained to the participants the concept of gender assessment and its benefits.

"Gender assessment is the way to demonstrate transparency and openness," Emmika Roos, a Folke Bernadotte Academy spokeswoman, said during the speech.

At the seminar, law enforcement officers were presented with a practical methodology for gender analysis (assessment), institutional mechanisms for its implementation, data collection methods and procedures for use in the activities of each agency in the MIA, as well as its problems and risks.

The participants also got acquainted with the best practices of the European Union and shared their opinions on their own work experience.

At the end of the practical seminar, representatives of Ukrainian law enforcement agencies expressed their gratitude to the representatives of the European Union Advisory Mission (EUAM) and the Folke Bernadotte Academy for their support and obtained knowledge on gender issues and human rights.
