Border guards of Lviv Border Guard Detachment prevented an attempt of illegal border crossing by a man carrying false documents.

A 58-year-old native of Kherson Region was travelling to Poland by bus. The man produced notarized copies of birth certificates of his three children to a border guard official to cross the border. In addition to it, there were records made in his passport confirming the fact that he had three minor children aged 8, 11 and 15 years.

During the inspection, the border guards had some doubts concerning the validity of the documents. That is why they initiated a thorough examination, during which the border guards discovered a number of signs indicating the forgery. In the course of the interview the presumed “father of many children” could not provide any information regarding his children. He could not remember the dates of their birth, places where the certificates were issued at, and moreover he generally ‘forgot’ the whereabouts of his children. Later, the man confessed that he had bought the counterfeit documents from unknown persons in order to cross the border.

The border guards reported the criminal offence to the competent law enforcement authorities. The offender was handed over to the law enforcement officers.

In general, the border guards of Lviv Border Guard Detachment have detected more than 1,700 documents containing forgery since the introduction of martial law in Ukraine. All the cases were reported to the National Police.
