The cost of goods detained by the State Border Guard Service last year is 1.8 times higher than in 2019.

Despite the significant reduction of passenger traffic in 2020, the indicators of the State Border Guard Service as for the detection of currency, antiques and certain types of goods have increased.

The cost of goods detained by the State Border Guard Service last year is 1.8 times higher than in 2019.

In general, during the implementation of the tasks assigned to the agency in 2020, border guards independently or in cooperation with interacting bodies detained goods worth almost UAH 730 million.

Last year, for example, several attempts to smuggle auto parts from Poland and Belarus, perfumes from Romania, currency to Ukraine and antiques abroad were stopped.

Totally, in 2020 there was a significant increase in attempts to move illegally major currencies stopped with the participation of border guards of the State Border Guard Service: 1.6 million US dollars (2019 - 500 thousand); 790 thousand Euros (2019 - 57 thousand); 8.5 million Russian rubles (2019 - 2.3 million). At the same time, dollars and euros were mostly transported to Ukraine, and rubles - from our country.

Last year, with the participation of border guards, about 170 thousand perfumes were detained, which is two and a half times more (in 2019 - 72 thousand). Most of this product - 110,000 units - was smuggled from Romania. 27.5 thousand perfumes were detained at the Ukrainian-Russian border. At the same time, illegally imported into Ukraine perfume products were detained at the border with Poland - more than 13 thousand, with Belarus - more than 9 thousand, another 6 thousand units of this product were detected at air checkpoints.

Items of antiques deserve special attention. After all, last year border guards found more than 8.1 thousand items of antiques, the vast majority of which tried to be taken out of Ukraine (in 2019 - 7.6 thousand). Most of all - 4,000 units - were detained on the border with Romania. About 2.4 thousand were moved to Poland, and almost another thousand - to Russia. In addition, 64 icons were found (2019 - 11). 50 of them are at the entry-exit check point on the demarcation line.

In 2020, the results of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine in counteracting the illegal movement of other groups of goods were significant: alcohol goods, household appliances, clothing and footwear, amber, food, etc. However, as it has been repeatedly reported, most often illegal elements tried to smuggle tobacco products across the border. In 2020, totally border guards seized about 12 million packs of cigarettes, often counterfeit ones in more than 930 cases.
