Vice Prime Minister of European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Olha Stefanishyna and Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Kateryna Pavlichenko paid a working visit to the Southern Regional Directorate of the State Border Guard Service.

As Olha Stefanishyna noted, border guards are always on advanced reformation and transformation frontline.

“I remember 2014 very well, when Ukrainian border guards invariably defended the border and did not betray the oath,” she said.

The head of the Southern Regional Directorate, Colonel Serhii Mul, acquainted the senior level officials with the state border protection service in this region.

In particular, the Odessa border guard division was introduced to the guests, where they got acquainted with the infrastructure, the features of the state border protection and with the division activity. Officials also visited the Marine Border Guard Detachment and the technical observation post. During the conversation it was mentioned that due to international technical assistance, modern radar surveillance stations were installed at technical observation posts, which significantly increased the level of maritime border protection efficiency.

Olha Stefanishyna and Kateryna Pavlichenko spoke to the border guards and got acquainted with their service conditions.

In turn, the border guards demonstrated the procedure for covering the surface picture and told about actions in case of unusual situations.

The senior level guests admitted the high professionalism of border guards, as well as the need for further development and modernization of border guard units, providing border guards with modern high-tech equipment in order to increase the state border protection effectiveness.

Summing up the results of the visit, Vice Prime Minister of European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Olha Stefanishyna and Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Kateryna Pavlichenko claimed that the results of joint efforts should be to bring the border protection system on land and sea, at airports to the best European standards.
