In 2020, 430 border guards from all over Ukraine graduated from the Canine Training Centre, the only one in Ukraine that trains dog handlers and four-legged border guards.

Among the graduates there are 125 conscript cynologists who are already guarding the state borders together with their four-legged assistants. Besides border guards, 9 representatives of other law enforcement agencies, including SSD of Ukraine and the LOMS of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were trained on the basis of the Centre. They also raised and trained 58 puppies for service at the border.

Service dogs training is carried out in two directions. Special service dogs - skilfully and unmistakably detect weapons, explosives, drugs and, more recently, tobacco products. Search service dogs - help to identify and detain violators, both at border crossing points and in the green area of ​​the border. Such four-legged assistants are able to detect the offender in vehicles and follow the trail for dozens of kilometres.

Search for weapons and drugs, detention of offenders are the main duties of four-legged guards, without whom it is impossible to imagine the daily service at the border. After all, a dog is not only a service partner, it is a faithful friend and a reliable assistant.
