Maritime protection with prospects and modernization in the focus of interests of international partners

Delegations of the European Union Advisory Mission to Ukraine simultaneously paid working visits to the Regional Maritime Protection Office and to the Marine Guard units of the State Border Guard Service performing tasks in the joined forces operation zon

Representatives of the mission were presented the composition and main tasks of the Maritime Guard, implemented reform steps, prospects for development and improvement of subordinate units.

The parties discussed the current situation on the maritime borders of Ukraine, the protection of its economic interests in inland waters, the territorial sea and in the exclusive marine economic zone, cooperation plans, opportunities to strengthen the equipment of the Maritime Guard.

Head of Mission Antti Hartikainen assured that at the hub in Mariupol, European partners will always be happy to welcome classes, trainings or meetings on exchange of experience, training or constructive professional dialogue. And the beginning of English language training courses for the personnel of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine to the level of confident independent communication, taking into account military and naval terminology, is planned for the spring of this year.

In turn, in the Regional Maritime Protection Directorate of the State Border Guard Service in Odesa, the head of the regional office of the EUMC Raimonds Deichmanis informed the command of the Maritime Guard about the idea of creating a project.

The prospects of studying the issue of sending Marine Guard personnel to the law enforcement agencies of Finland, Estonia and Latvia to participate in the exchange of practical experience, skills, conducting various trainings, seminars, etc. were discussed separately.
