Law enforcement officers pulled out poaching nets from the sea in Donetsk region

Recently, in the Sea of Azov, not far from Yalta (Manhush district of Donetsk region), law enforcement officers removed prohibited nets containing turbots and redlip mullets from water.

Poaching nets were found not far from the place where the violators of the border regime had been detained the day before while returning from the fishery with the catch of 1345 Azov turbots. It should be noted that the National Police personnel entered the ERDF data on this fact under Art. 249 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine "Illegal fishing, animal or other aquatic industry". And an expert ichthyologist determined that the illegal catch brought damage to the state by almost UAH 1220000.

After detaining the offenders with fish, a joint detail of border guards and police with an expert ichthyologist went out on a boat in search of their fishing gear. As a result of the search, law enforcement officers revealed and seized 450 meters of a net that contained 5 redlip mullets and 10 Azov turbots. According to the ichthyologist's estimation - revealed fishing nets belong to the prohibited fishing gears, and the damage caused to the state by the owners of the nets this time amounted to about 12000 UAH.

Prohibited fishing gear and aquatic bio resources were seized by police investigators under criminal proceedings.
