“Dogs are not our whole life, but they make our lives whole.” Roger Karas, American naturalist and animal rights activist.

Jorna, a German Shepherd dog, has been faithfully serving to protect our security with border guards in Odesa region for more than three years.

"I remember her when she was very young, just starting to take her first steps in the service. Jorna joined the ranks as a young 6-month-old puppy, which is the optimal age for training," says dog handler Artem.

During her service in the border guard unit, the explosive detector dog has consistently demonstrated her level of professionalism. Over the past year, it has twice found World War II-era military shells in Podillia district.

Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Jorna has repeatedly performed tasks on the eastern borders of the country. Thanks to her keen sense of smell and hearing, she warned our men against getting caught in the occupiers' mine ambushes numerous times, saving their lives.

For their joint achievements in the service, the furry defender, together with the dog handler, were repeatedly awarded with honours.

Currently, Artem continues his intensive training of Jorna so that the black-haired dog will show the best results at the most crucial moment.
