The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine irrevocably has begun the reforming process, including the fight against corruption. In this direction established effective cooperation with international organizations, including IOM and the Office of NATO in Ukraine. Formation of integrated system on corruption prevention is currently being finalized. Collaboration with US counterparts, which launched a pilot project to combat corruption “Millennium Challenges”. The creation of a new image of border guards has been started. The experiment is conducted on the basis of check point “Kyiv”. It has already produced positive results. In particular, virtually there are no complaints from the citizens who cross the border on impolite behavior of border guards. There are also a lot of positive feedback for comfortable and quick procedures for state border crossing at “Boryspil” and “Kyiv” airports. The number of refusal of bribes is increasing.

State Border Guard Service of Ukraine is not complacent and continues anti-corruption measures in the SBGS. Units of its own and internal security of the border guard agency actively work in cooperation with other law enforcement agencies.

Thus, several days ago officers of the Internal Security Department of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine in cooperation with representatives of the Division for Organized Crime and Corruption of the Department of the Security Service of Ukraine in Zaporizhzhia region and Military Prosecutors of Zaporizhzhia garrison has documented illegal acts and arrested two officers of senior management staff of one of the border guard units of Berdiansk border guard detachment. These officers demanded and received from the citizen of Turkey funds in the amount of ₴7500, $210, €20 for not bringing alien to responsibility for violation of legislation of Ukraine.

Currently, the detainees are taken to the Military Prosecutors of Zaporizhzhia garrison and preventive measures against them are under procedure. In addition, a command investigation is intended, at the time of which officers are suspended from duty.

Note that last year at the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine were conducted more than 2 thousand investigations and verification, on the results of which 3500 persons were brought to responsibility, 123 criminal proceedings were opened, 88 officers were convicted. Overall, more than 680 servicemen were dismissed under negative article, 83 of them were reduced or were deprived their military ranks.
