In Odesa Region Border Guards Refused an Undue Reward Offered by the Citizens of Moldova

During border control at the checkpoint "Kuchurhan" border guards of Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi detachment found out that 45-year-old citizen of Moldova and 58-year-old citizeness of Moldova overstayed their time permitted by the Ukraine’s legislation. In order to avoid administrative responsibility for the offence, the Moldovans have enclosed 400 and 200 USD respectively into their passports.

According to the current legislation of Ukraine such foreigners’ actions are considered to a crime stipulated in Art. 369 of the Criminal Code "A proposal, promise or giving an excessive benefit to an officer".

Currently, the violators have been administratively prosecuted according to art.203, part 2 of the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offences, and have been fined at 850 USD each. Notification about possible perpetration stipulated in art. 369 of the Criminal Code has been submitted to Rozdilnianskyi Police Department of the Central Directorate of the National Police in Odesa region.

State Border Service addresses to the citizens who cross the state border, not to put extraneous or unrelated objects inside a passport as well as to stop any attempts, including offering money, to influence legal decision-making of the border guards.
