Border guards of the Odesa detachment eliminated a chain of russian agents who collected intelligence on local authorities, deployment of military units, and also carried out provocations to incite pro-russian sentiment among the population of Odesa.

The chain included 3 local residents. The main figure of the criminal group engaged in the recruitment of mercenaries to carry out collaborative and subversive activities on the territory of Odesa. Criminals organized their «money bank» for the purchase of weapons, ammunition and equipment for the purpose of preparing a subversive intelligence group, as well as maintenance of all members of the group.

The investigation established that the organizer of the criminal group took an active pro-russian position and participated in political events of «russkiy mir» in 2014. In August of this year, with other participants in the case he actively promoted the slogan «Odesa is a russian city» among the local population and they hung banners of similar nature on houses. The agents recorded all their criminal actions regarding the propaganda of «russkiy mir» on communication devices and sent the evidence to curators from the russian federation as a report.

The attackers developed a plan to forcibly kidnap a local businessman who did not support the armed aggression of the russian federation. Contributing to the necessity of abducting a man with a pro-Ukrainian position, they planned to keep him in a basement and with the help of narcotics, as well as physical violence, force him to reregister real estate and give other valuable things.

Due to the concerted actions of the law enforcement officers, who staged the kidnapping of the «victim», the criminals were caught red-handed.

The special operation to uncover the illegal scheme was carried out by operatives of the Odesa border guard detachment, employees of the internal security of the State Border Guard Service, together with the territorial administration of the State Bureau of Investigation in Kyiv and the Headquarters of internal security of the Security Service of Ukraine under the procedural guidance of the Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office.

Currently, investigative actions are ongoing to expose all involved persons.
