At the Diakove BCP, border guards of the Mukachevo Border Guard Detachment together with customs officers prevented an attempt to smuggle cigarettes into Romania.

A 35-year-old Hungarian citizen, who arrived at the BCP in a Mercedes Sprinter minibus, secretly tried to smuggle tobacco products across the border.

The Hungarian national tried to hide 260 packs of excise-free cigarettes in a spare wheel. During a perquisition of the car the joint inspection team exposed the illegal intentions of the foreigner and in accordance with the established procedure detected cigarettes.

And while the border guards were taking the cigarettes out of hiding place, the Hungarian, probably fearing his responsibility, began to convince the patrol that it was not his “spare wheel” and he was simply set up.

Note that it is one of the most common excuse for smugglers, which border guards usually heard, when detecting hidden tobacco. However, such “arguments” do not have any effect on the adoption of legal decisions.
