Illegal human trafficking: Two men detained in Transcarpathia for smuggling people across the border

In Transcarpathian region, officers of the operational department of Chop Border Guard Detachment detained two smugglers as they were trying to illegally transport a conscript to Hungary.

As part of a criminal investigation, the operation was held jointly with the operatives of the Mukachevo Border Guard Detachment, employees of the Migration Police, investigators of the investigation department of the Uzhhorod Regional Directorate of the National Police in the Transcarpathian region, and under the procedural guidance of the Uzhhorod District Prosecutor's Office.

The offenders were detained near the settlement of Astey in the Berehove district immediately after receiving a cash reward from a local resident. The man was transported to the outskirts of the village for 3000 US dollar reward. He was supposed to move to the border along the route indicated by the smugglers.

Subsequently, authorized searches were conducted at several addresses of the participants of criminal proceedings. As a result, two mobile phones and an Opel vehicle, used by smugglers to commit illegal acts, were confiscated.

Both suspects were detained and placed in a temporary detention facility of the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Transcarpathian region. Currently, the issue of serving a notice of suspicion for committing a criminal offense is being under consideration. The men face imprisonment for a term of seven to nine years with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for a period of up to three years with confiscation of property for their actions.
