The official ceremony of handing over the advanced documents examination equipment to the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine was held yesterday, on January 28, at Boryspil Airport.

International assistance, estimated at about 140,000 euros was received in the framework of bilateral cooperation between the border guard agencies of Ukraine and Germany.

In particular, the Federal Police of Germany has handed over to the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine video spectral comparators, microscopes, computer equipment and other devices which will be used at the Main Expert Forensic Centre of the SBGSU for passport documents examination and detection of various kinds of counterfeits.

“I can confidently state that the cooperation between the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine and the Federal Police of Germany has been developed successfully for many years and has a long history. And today's event is a good example and result of cooperation of our agencies! ", - said in his speech Volodymyr Nikiforenko, First Deputy Head of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.

Thanks to the obtained equipment, the border guards have completed the first stage of technical equipping of the Main Expert Forensic Centre of the SBGS with expert-level type of devices for documents examination. This will allow to establish a National Focal Point for the passport documents authenticity verification on the basis of this centre and will facilitate its integration into the system of expert services of border guard authorities of European countries.

German Federal Police Liaison Officer Franz Weber, in turn, said: “I would like to point out that our cooperation is taking a slightly different form compared to previous years. It is important to me that border guards can have something to work with and use on a daily basis.”
