In the Southern and Western Regional Directorates, as well as in the Lviv and Odessa border guard detachments, a number of events were held to ensure equal rights and opportunities for women and men.

Last week, Assistant to the SBGS Head for Gender Issues Colonel Olesya KLYMENKO and Head of the Gender Equality Sector Major Darya DROZHENKO worked in the western and southern sectors of the border as part of the third phase of a survey to determine staff confidence in management and to provide practical assistance and to improve work with staff in the area of equal rights and opportunities for women and men.

Officers of Administration of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine conducted outreach work with the staff on the international and national legislation governing equal rights and opportunities for men and women, disclosure of the essence of gender issues, prevention and combating sex discrimination, as well as the main possible threats and risks, including in cases of sexist behaviour or sexual harassment.

The SBGS staff were asked to take an anonymous questionnaire with the purpose of identifying problematic issues in terms of understanding the direction of gender equality, the existing institution of mentoring in the department and the stereotypical representation of women and men in management positions.

In addition, contract servicepersons and officers had the opportunity to conduct individual in-depth interviews to determine the level of staff confidence in the Administration of the SBGS, and then, based on a general analysis, to formulate proposals for effective steps and prevent potential challenges.
