Four citizens of Sri Lanka, who intended to cross the Ukrainian-Russian border illegally, were detained yesterday by border guards of the Sumy border guard detachment.

Information about the whereabouts of a group of unknown persons near the Ukrainian-Russian border, near the village of Lukashivka, in the Okhtyrka district, was obtained from a district border guard inspector.

The border patrol immediately went to the specified direction for inspection and detained four foreigners who were trying to enter the territory of the Russian Federation bypassing the established border crossing points.

The men did not have any identity documents with them. They had only mobile phones, some clothes and hygiene items in their backpacks and bags. There is no report yet, why detainees tried to get to the Russian Federation.

Later, law enforcement officers found out that two foreigners had arrived in Ukraine to study. In addition, it turned out that the men had already been detained by border guards in other parts of the state border. There is an investigation into the case.

The detained Sri Lankans have now been taken to the border guard unit to reveal all the circumstances of the offense, as well as to compile administrative materials.

The further steps of the detainees will be decided by the court.
