First Deputy Head of the SBGS and Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Estonia Discussed Steps of Cooperation

First Deputy Head of the SBGSU Volodymyr Nikiforenko met with Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Estonia to Ukraine Kaimo Kuusk and Special Representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Estonia.

First Deputy Head of the SBGSU Volodymyr Nikiforenko met with Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Estonia to Ukraine Kaimo Kuusk and Special Representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Estonia in Ukraine Tarmo Kohv in the Administration of the State Border Service of Ukraine.

During the meeting, Volodymyr Nikiforenko emphasized the foreign delegation's attention on the main security challenges faced by Ukrainian border guards in the course of fulfilling the state border protection missions, outlined the prospects for further reform of the border guard agency and briefly described the situation in the region of the Joint Forces Operation.

The parties also discussed the state of bilateral cooperation.

“I can confidently say that cooperation between the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine and the Police and Border Protection Department of the Republic of Estonia has been successfully developing and continuing to strengthen for many years. In particular, I would like to thank the Estonian counterparts for the training of our Maritime Security personnel held in Ukraine last year. This gives us the opportunity to strengthen and increase our capacity in line with the best European practices,” said the First Deputy Head of the SBGS.

Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Estonia to Ukraine Kaimo Kuusk, in turn, offered to conduct another training this year for the Maritime Security servicemen of the State Border Guard Service. It will be based on modern Estonian hybrid manning ships and will focus specifically on the control of Coast Guard ships.

At the end of the meeting Volodymyr Nikiforenko stressed that it is extremely important for the Ukrainian border guards to experience the support of foreign partners on the way of accomplishing certain tasks and further development.

"We hope for further fruitful bilateral cooperation that will continue to be strengthened and developed for the benefit of our countries," he said.
