Working meeting of experts of analytical units of border agencies of Ukraine and Belarus was held February 16-17 in Chernihiv. Border analysts met to implement the action plan on Integrated Border Management Concept approved by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, and protocol arrangements between the State Border Service Headquarters and the State Border Committee of Belarus on the procedure for exchange of information on the situation on the state border between the two countries.

During the meeting, border experts of Ukraine and Belarus discussed the state of information exchange and the possibility of its expansion, and analysed the situation in the Ukrainian-Belarusian state border in 2016.

In particular, the parties stated that the situation on the common border area is dynamic and controlled, and the main threat is the illegal movement of goods, vehicles and smuggling of drugs.

At the end of the meeting the parties reached an agreement on holding in April next trilateral risk analysis involving border agencies of Ukraine, Belarus and Poland.

It is worth mentioning that the first such trilateral analysis was conducted in May 2016 in the city Brest of Belarus.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian and Belarusian border guards underscored the importance of joint assessment of threats as an effective mechanism for forecasting the situation on Ukrainian-Belarusian border.
