EUBAM ADVISORY BOARD - PRACTICE OF JOINT CONTROL WILL BE EXPANDED

The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine was represented by a working group headed by the Deputy Department Director - Head of the Border Control Organization Directorate, Yurii Lysiuk.

On January 28, the 35th meeting of the Advisory Board of the European Union Border Assistance Mission to Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova (EUBAM) took place. Due to quarantine restrictions, the event was held online.

The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine was represented by a working group headed by the Deputy Department Director - Head of the Border Control Organization Directorate, Yurii Lysiuk.

During the meeting, the Head of the EUBAM Mission, Mr. Slawomir Pichor, spoke about the main results of the Mission's activities for the last four months of 2020. The participants paid considerable attention to the issue of full implementation of joint control procedures at the Kuchurhan and Reni road border crossing points, as well as the extension of joint control to other BCPs on the Ukrainian-Moldovan border.

According to Major General Yurii Lysiuk, the spread of joint control on the Ukrainian-Moldovan border primarily depends on the solution of certain issues of Ukrainian-Moldovan cooperation, as well as the implementation of agreements reached during the meeting of Presidents of Ukraine and Moldova on January 12. in Kyiv.

The meeting participants also agreed on the need to finalize the Roadmap for the introduction of joint control on the Ukrainian-Moldovan border from 2018, as well as the possibility of giving this document legal force through expert consultations.

The joint work of the State Border Guard Service with the partner services of Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova, as well as cooperation with EUBAM within the framework of further expansion of joint control on the Ukrainian-Moldovan state border remains one of the priorities of cooperation in 2021.
