On December 14-15, a meeting with representatives of the Department of Law Enforcement (INL) headed by Sarah Langenkamp was held in Odessa as part of the program on cooperation between the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine and the US Embassy in Ukraine. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the state of implementation of joint projects to provide logistical assistance.

During the two-day working visit, representatives of the US Embassy got acquainted with the infrastructure and the main tasks facing the units of the Southern Regional Directorate. Foreign colleagues were interested in the state of implementation and achievements of the international project “New Face of the Border”. The head of the Odessa-Airport Border Guard Division, Major Artem Povoroznyk, who once went through all stages of selection and training within the project, noted that the “New Face of the Border” significantly increases staff motivation to develop and improve professional skills, which allows more effective perform the functions assigned to border guards.

The foreign delegation was also acquainted with the peculiarities of maritime border protection and the main achievements of the current year.

At the end of the visit, the American partners were shown the premises of the base of the special unit DOZOR and the Avhustivka military shooting range, where the training facilities are currently being renovated. Serhii Mul, the head of the Southern Regional Directorate, who was present at the appointment, noted that currently the DOZOR special unit is not inferior to any special unit of other law enforcement agencies, not only in Ukraine.

At the end of the visit, the US representatives thanked for the appointment and noted that they were impressed by the high level of professional training of the SBGS personnel. The foreign partners stressed that much has already been done to implement the joint project, and expressed hope for further joint efforts to develop Ukraine's border agency to NATO standards.
