The Citroen, registered in Ukraine, was stopped by borderguards for inspection on the highway connecting the villages of Ploska and Seliatyn in Chernivtsi region. The car was driven by a 20-year-old citizen of Ukraine.

During the inspection of the vehicle, law enforcement officers found 60 boxes of cigarettes without excise stamps. The driver did not have documents for the tobacco cargo, he could not explain the origin of the goods either.

The cigarettes were likely to be used for illegal movement across the border, and were handed over to the officers of  the State Fiscal Service. In addition, the competent authorities were notified of the detection of signs of the crime.

Measures are being taken to establish the circle of persons involved in illegal activities.
