Illegal transportation of tobacco contraband across the Ukrainian-Hungarian border was prevented last night in Zakarpattia region by borderguards of the Mukachevo detachment.

During the implementation of the available operational information, officers of the operational and investigative department together with servicemen of the Border Guard Service Department «Vylok» saw two vehicles near the border, from which several people got out and began to take out packages wrapped in black polyethylene. Borderguards began to pursue the offenders immediately.

Smugglers tried to leave the scene of incident by their cars having noticed the borderguards, but they were stuck in the mud after driving a few meters, then they abandoned their vehicles and began to run away.

Borderguards found 18 packages with 9 thousand packs of cigarettes without excise in abandoned cars.

The report about the detection of signs of crime was sent to the Territorial Office of the Bureau of Economic Security in Zakarpattia region.

The tobacco products and the cars were withdrawn by officers of the BES in Zakarpattia region.
