The State Border Guard Service takes necessary measures to increase its readiness to act in case of emergencies of a different nature, as well as to prevent "nuclear smuggling."

Last week, the agency's units, together with the SBU Counterintelligence Service, the National Guard of Ukraine, and the Armed Forces of Ukraine, took part in complex special measures to prevent threats to national security aimed at countering terrorist/sabotage acts involving radioactive materials.

During the last week, units of the department, in cooperation with the Security Service counter-intelligence, the National Guard of Ukraine, and the Armed Forces of Ukraine, took part in complex special measures to prevent threats to national security, aimed at countering terrorist/sabotage acts using radioactive materials.

Within the defined controlled border areas, at border crossing points and places of military service, vehicle inspections were carried out and joint inspections of a number of critical infrastructure facilities and public places were conducted.

No dangerous radioactive and nuclear materials were detected.

At the same time, border guards checked the transportation of goods and materials containing natural radioisotopes in 48 cases. In addition, weapons, ammunition and, in one case, a narcotic substance were found.

Thanks to the use of modern equipment and mobile radiation monitoring complexes, inspections were carried out secretly and remotely, which did not increase the time of inspections and did not cause discomfort to travelers.

These measures contributed to increasing the level of interaction between the components of the Security and Defense Sector of Ukraine in ensuring national security and consolidating their joint activities in the field of radiation, chemical and biological protection.
