As part of “Carpathians 2021” Operation, border guards of Mukachevo border guard detachment stopped another attempt to smuggle cigarettes to EU countries.

In the evening, servicemen of Dilove BD division, in cooperation with officers of the operative-search unit, realized information about possible illegal activities and prevented an attempt to smuggle excise-free cigarettes across the border.

While checking the specified direction, border guards noticed three people carrying packages wrapped in polyethylene. The cigarette smugglers planned to traffic cigarettes to Romania across Tysa River. Realizing that they had been exposed, they left their burdens and tried to escape.

During the inspection of the river bank, the servicemen revealed 9 boxes containing 4.5 thousand packs of excise-free cigarettes.

The detected tobacco products were delivered to the border guard unit for transferring to customs officers.
