Border guards of Mukachevo detachment revealed the place of cigarettes concealment and prevented an attempt of smuggling

Another attempt at tobacco smuggling was prevented yesterday by border guards of Mukachevo Detachment at the border sector of the Dilove Division.

According to the available information received from the staff of the Operations and Investigative Unit, the border guards of the special unit of Mukachevo Detachment detected a group of persons with packages on their shoulders near the border. While attempting to apprehend the detainees, several shots were fired, but the smugglers abandoned their loads and fled. As the border guards found out, there were 5,000 packs of cigarettes left in 10 packs.

In the course of further searching activities, officers of the Operations and Investigative Unit identified the location of possible concealment of tobacco products, from where they were further illegally transferred to neighbouring Romania. The offenders smuggled cigarettes to a non-residential premises located in the settlement of Luh (Rakhiv district). The building is owned by a 40-year-old local resident. During the inspection of the premises, the border guards, together with the National Police, found 6 more packages of 3,000 packs of tobacco wrapped in black polyethylene.

Identification procedures of all persons involved in illegal activity are currently under way
